PREPARATION FOR THE TEST MEASUREMENT USING SMART PULSE (AN APG AND HRV MONITOR)

    1. Refrain from drinking alcoholic drink the day before taking the measurement.
    2. Recommended NOT to take the measurement right after a meal. Best to take it at least 2 hours after you had taken your meal.
    3. It is recommended to take the measurement in the morning before any consumption of coffee, drugs or smoking. If you had taken coffee, please give 3 hours lapse before you take your measurement.
    4. Do not take the measurement right after an exercise session but rest for at least 10 minutes.
    5. Keep your accessories like ring and watch away from Smartpulse. You should also NOT have manicured nail, which may interfere with the accurate measurement.

    DURING THE TEST

    1. Keep your hands warm as cold hands may result in inaccuracy of data due to vasoconstriction.
    2. Put your hands where the device is, on the table. You should be in a comfortable position.
    3. Put your left index finger deeply into the device.
    4. Do not move your finger during the session.
    5. Do not move or talk during the measurement. Keep your eyes open (yes, you can blink!)
    6. Do not strain yourself. Take regular breath and refrain from slow breathing.

    SOMETHING TO NOTE

    1. If you are having arrhythmia or cardiac disease, the test result may not be accurate.

  • FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

    Q1 : What is HRV?

Answer: The HRV,heart rate variability is the degree of fluctuation in the length of the intervals between heart beats. Heart rate is determined by S-A node and ANS function. ANS function (SNS and PNS) leads to change heart rate continuously under the influence of internal/ external environmental changes. Healthy person has highly complexity of HRV while unhealthy individual with stress and disease has lowered complexity of HRV.

Q2 : It is said that irregular heart rate means healthy and regular heart rate means unhealthy. Why?

Answer: In the past, it had been believed that normal heart rate should be regular keeping the static or lasting state of equilibrium since the concept of homeostasis was first introduced to medical academic world in 1929. But it turned out that - with the development of bio-signal processing technology- the bio-signals are constantly and minutely changes even in a state of equilibrium. That is to say, 'normal resting heart rate is highly irregular'.Normal and healthy ANS(Autonomic Nervous System) copes with the environmental changes rapidly and properly, thus HRV increases while if the ANS function is lowered or improper, which indicates lowered HRV.

Q3 : Is the heart controlled by ANS?

Answer: The heart is representative organ controlled by both sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous system together. ANS's function and balance can be assessed and evaluated by measuring heart rate variability, the window of the ANS.

Q4. How do we know the balance of ANS?

Answer: There are two methods to analyze the HRV measure, time domain analysis and frequency domain analysis.Frequency domain analysis method is related to the balance between SNS and PNS by filtering and analyzing the power of each frequency waves from tachogram.

Q5. What is the clinical value of HRV?

Answer: (1) Coping ability with disease (2) Prediction about adequate recovery (3) Warning and preparation related chronic disease (4) Choice of drug and dose (5) Evaluation of prognosis and treatment results (6) Keep fit and quality evaluation

Q6. Where can I read about medical reference related to the HRV?

Answer: HRV has attracted attentions and has been researched in relation with various conditions and diseases in more than 7000 copies in Pubmed. Searching site is available at http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/Pubmed)

Q7. Are there normal standard references?

Answer : MEDI-CORE built the world first oriental reference by 2 years' collecting and analyzing normal healthy cases from 8 university hospitals and health check centers, which provides validity of diagnosis and measourement results.

    Q8. What is APG?

Answer: It is called `Photoplethysmograph` corrugating with the wave form signal that indicates pulsation of chest wall and great arteries followed by heart beat. Pulse waveforms made by the status of vessels or circulation are not stable and hard to find the turning points. Therefore, it is necessary to assess by Accelerated Photoplethysmograph which is the second differentiation of PTG.

Q9. How can we measure the APG?

Answer: Near infrared ray is easy to penetrate the human tissues and to absorb the oxidized hemoglobin in the blood. Therefore, there are two measuring methods like reflex way that detects the reflex lights and transmission way that detects the transmissible lights. With our device, we use the transmission method to detect the extinction volume of infrared rays at the finger tip. It is called `Photoplethysmograph` which can be measured for the volume level of blood in the vessel.

Q10. How long does it take for the test?

Answer: Basically, it will take one and a half minutes for the direct diagnostic result and blood circulation with the finger probe, but you can see the result of HRV additionally when you take the test at 3 minutes mode.

Q11. Is it possible to figure out the symptom of arteriosclerosis with the result measured by the finger probe?

Answer: When the pressure fluctuation from the aorta by the pulsation of heart transmits its influence to the peripheral nerve, it appears the change in the blood volume at the finger tip. It is reported that the central pulse waves have the similar ones from the peripheral nerve and aorta. By the disease, the pulse waves are changing continuously. In particular, it is very big change in age. With this device, it is not possible to confirm the specific symptom of arteriosclerosis but it is available specially to detect the peripheral blood circulation disorder.

Q12. What are the clinical applications of APG?

Answer: (1) Assess the peripheral blood circulation disorder (2) Evaluate the process and prediction of arteriosclerosis (3) Cardiovascular disease such as Myocardial Infarction (4) Indicator of general health
